Preparation
The experts at Johnstone’s know that the key to a perfect finish is in the preparation so take your time now, follow the simple steps below and you will be rewarded with a gorgeous new look. Start by making sure all surfaces to be painted are clean, dry and free from grease and loose or flaking material. Any existing rust or loose paint should be removed. If necessary strip to a bare surface. If your metal has been previously painted rub down glossy surfaces with a fine waterproof abrasive paper and then rinse thoroughly. Please avoid inhaling any sanding dust and always wear a face mask if dry sanding.
Application
Now you are at the stage where you are ready to begin painting so give the paint a thorough stir. Johnstone’s paints are made to the highest standard and are ready to use straight from the tin. For the best results apply using a large brush, cover the area quickly and thickly. Lay off the surface using long, light strokes to obtain an even finish, but do not over brush as this may destroy the hammered pattern. To achieve the best finish, ensure that all corners and edges are adequately covered, this ensures that there are no pinholes and thin spots, which may allow moisture to penetrate.
Cleaning
Once you have completed all your painting make sure you remove as much product as possible from your brush and then clean immediately using Cellulose Thinners (NOT White Spirit).
