Preparation
The experts at Johnstone’s know that the key to a perfect finish is in the preparation so take your time now, follow the simple steps below and you will be rewarded with a gorgeous new look. Start by making sure all surfaces to be painted are clean, dry and free from grease and loose or flaking material. Any existing rust, millscale, loose paint should be removed. Lightly sand the surface with a fine waterproof abrasive paper and wipe clean. Please avoid inhaling any sanding dust and always wear a face mask if dry sanding.
Application
Now you are at the stage where you are ready to begin painting so give the paint a thorough stir. Johnstone’s paints are made to the highest standard and are ready to use straight from the tin so there is no need for any thinners. Ensure maximum ventilation during application and drying. When applying by brush to large interior surfaces or in confined spaces, wear a suitable cartridge respirator or air-fed respiratory protective equipment. Apply only using a brush. Apply liberally and do not overspread. One coat is normally sufficient, but a second may be applied after overnight drying if required. Wallpaper and emulsion paints may be applied directly, if a gloss finish is required seal with Johnstone’s Quick Dry Primer Undercoat or a high quality matt emulsion.
Cleaning
Once you have completed all your painting make sure you remove as much product as possible from your brush and then clean immediately using White Spirit or Turpentine Substitute.
